Simile	Saying that one thing is similar to another e.g. My fingers are like ice.	Dumb as a dog he listened,	Yes because i know how dumb he is
Metaphor	Saying that one thing is another e.g. My fingers are ice.	The wind was a torrent of darkness among the gusty trees,	Yes because I  know what It sort of looks like.
Alliteration	Starting a series of words with the same consonant sound e.g. A big black boulder.	Over the cobbles he clattered and clashed in the dark inn-yard,	Yes because i sort of know  but not because i did not understand it at first
Repetition	Repeating the same words or phrases a few times to make an idea clearer.	How Bess, the landlord's daughter, The landlord's black-eyed daughter,	No because it is just repeating the same words
Symbolism	The use of one object or action (a symbol) to represent or suggest something else.	red=love fo the highwayman and bess/blood or death	No because i did not understand it
